Samenvatting

The Ferret is a lightly armored four-wheel drive reconnaissance car from the British company Daimler. The vehicle was produced in large numbers between 1952 and 1971 and entered service with the British Army and has also been widely exported. It is equipped with a six-cylinder petrol engine from the Rolls-Royce brand. The displacement is 4.2 liters and the engine is water-cooled. The fuel tank has a capacity of 96 liters. The gearbox is flexible, all five gears can be used when driving forwards and backwards. All wheels are independently suspended and the tires could not be punctured. The top speed is almost 100 km / h in both directions. The weight of the Mk 1 is 3.7 tons, but in later versions the weight has increased. The armor is 6mm thick at the rear and 16mm thick at the sides and front. It provides protection against shrapnel and light firearms. The armament consists of a light machine gun, Bren or Browning, with a 0.3-inch caliber. The vehicle is fitted with six smoke grenades as standard. In total, more than 4,400 Ferret reconnaissance vehicles were built in 16 versions. The British army continued to use the vehicles until the 1990s...
