The Instrument

I woke without knowing I had been asleep. So begins The Instrument, a short first-person novella that moves through nine stages, awakening, compass, threshold, memory, code, meeting, vertigo, descent, signature, narrated by a voice that has no name yet, only a body remembering things it has never done before. Written by visual artist and sculptor xUEkA as an extension of the symbolic language running through his entire body of work, signs that repeat and cross over canvas and sculpture, until they find their own coherence, this story asks for no prior knowledge of that visual work. Only a willingness to follow it to the end. xUEkA is a visual artist and sculptor, exhibited in New York, Los Angeles, Japan, UEA, Lisbon and the Algarve, with work held in art collections across four continents. The Instrument is the first time his symbolic language has taken narrative form.
